Jonathan Statham

PHOTOGRAPHER

Jonathan Statham (1960)

Early photos were taken on a Kodak Hawkeye box camera (apparently given away with a comic in the 1930’s). Graduating to a Zenith E when l was 15

My first professional photography job was as a “walkie”, shooting holiday makers at Butlin’s Holiday Camp! Basically stopping and selling snapshots on the spot, using a Leica M1 camera which would have been around 20 years old then!!! I was only 19 at the time!! Couple of years later I started a 3 year course in Professional Photography at Blackpool College.

Three and a half years later I started at Aylesbury Studios where the main weapon of choice was a Cambo 4”x 5” sheet film camera (shooting products for advertising). Off to the Smoke a couple of years later to assist fashion photographers as well as anyone who would employ me!!!! That included assisting on the famous Rothmans Cigarette airline pilots hand shot, car shots in the studio and location! Ended up shooting swimming pools and hotels for Airtours, Cosmos, Thomas Cook and even Club 18-30 !!!!!

By accident about 15 years ago I showed a picture to a friend of mine who said you could sell that and so began another chapter in my career…….shooting and selling photographs for wall art ….. gaining awards in The Three Counties Open Art Exhibition and the Staffordshire Open Art Exhibition.

The Wall Art images are giclee prints made with pigment inks (and a stated longevity of 75 years plus) and printed on fine art paper.
